Vice Principal at ÉSFCHS/ AHSFA announces retirement

Please join us in congratulating Ms. Kathryn Strilchuk who will be retiring on June 30, 2023, capping a 32-year career across four school jurisdictions in both British Columbia and Alberta as a classroom teacher, vice principal, and principal.
Kathryn joined the Foothills School Division in August 2007 as Principal of École Percy Pegler Elementary School following 16 years of teaching and school leadership experience in Calgary Catholic Schools, School District #23 (Central Okanagan), and School District #48 (Howe Sound). In 2011 Kathryn joined the team at ÉFCHS/AHSFA as vice principal where she has served for the past 12 years.
The strong relationships across the ÉFCHS/AHSFA school community that Kathryn has cultivated in her leadership role have resulted in significant success and ensured pathways to graduation for diverse students throughout her time at the school. As a school leader, Kathryn has supported and directly lead many school-based opportunities for students which have enriched their high school experience including extra-curricular opportunities she has championed. A focus on student well-being has been fundamental to her approach with all students and families and Kathryn has modelled this for staff and students in her leadership.
Kathryn commits to career-long learning and improvement and is known among her colleagues for her knowledgeable and informed leadership, in part, as a result of extensive reading across many leadership fields.
Ms. Strilchuk holds a Bachelor of Arts, University of Alberta (1989); Bachelor of Education, University of Alberta (1990), and a Master of Arts Education, Gonzaga University (1993). Additionally, Kathryn completed intensive French Immersion programs at 3 Canadian Universities during her career and in support of her second language and immersion teaching.
Kathryn shares this with the FSD team, "Relationships have always been at the centre of my Why. I believe this is where we build our foundations for what lies ahead. I am humbled to have been a part of the lives of so many people and have learned so much on this journey. As I complete this part of my story, I am excited to step into the next version of me and am grateful for those who have helped me write the chapters that have brought me to this place."
Superintendent Chris Fuzessy shares, "A word of thanks, appreciation, and congratulations to Ms. Strilchuk for her contributions and work in supporting students at the Foothills School Division. Ms. Strilchuk's continuous focus on providing every opportunity for students to succeed, and advocating for student success has undoubtedly had a very positive impact on our school community. On behalf of the Foothills Team, we wish Ms. Strilchuk all the best in her future endeavours."
