LA-RDL-AVP-Battrum-26

In a community where people genuinely care for and support one another, I have learned that meaningful connections are at the heart of both personal growth and student success.

Foothills School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Kim Battrum as acting Vice Principal at Red Deer Lake School for the 2026–2027 school year.

Ms. Battrum brings a strong foundation of experience and a commitment to student learning and well-being. She began her career in Foothills School Division as an Educational Assistant at École Joe Clark School, where she supported learners and developed a passion for inclusive and responsive education. She later transitioned into teaching, serving students and school communities at Blackie School and Cayley School. Through these roles, Ms. Battrum demonstrated a dedication to fostering engaging learning environments and building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

During the 2025–2026 year, Ms. Battrum participated in the division’s Learning and Leading leadership development program, further strengthening her leadership capacity and readiness to serve school communities in a formal leadership role. In July 2026 she will complete a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Lethbridge. Kim’s journey reflects a deep understanding of Foothills School Division's diverse communities and a commitment to growth, collaboration, and student-centered leadership.

Upon accepting the role of Acting Vice Principal at Red Deer Lake, Kim offers the following statement,

“As I reflect on my time at Blackie School, I am filled with sincere gratitude for the students, staff, families, and community who have been part of my journey as an educator and leader. This school has reinforced the importance of relationships, trust, and a strong sense of belonging. In a community where people genuinely care for and support one another, I have learned that meaningful connections are at the heart of both personal growth and student success. Blackie School has provided me with countless opportunities to learn, collaborate, and grow, and I am deeply appreciative of the support, encouragement, and experiences that have shaped me both professionally and personally.

While it is not easy to leave a community that has meant so much to me, I am honoured and excited to begin a new chapter as Vice Principal of Red Deer Lake School. I look forward to continuing to support students, staff, and families, building strong relationships, and contributing to a learning environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to succeed."

On welcoming Ms. Battrum to the Division’s leadership team in the role of Acting Vice Principal at RDL, Superintendent Chris Fuzessy shares the following, “It is exciting to see members of our team grow in the study of instructional and organization leadership and formalize this expertise in a leadership role. I know Ms. Battrum will make a positive impact on the Red Deer Lake School community. Congratulations, Kim!”

Please join us in congratulating Ms. Kim Battrum on this new role and in welcoming her to the Red Deer Lake School leadership team.

This appointment is in place as Ms. Stacey Burrows joins the Westmount School team as Acting Principal for the 2026-2027 school year.
