Dare to Care: Bully-Proofing Your Child - April 29, 2026 at MRS

2026-DTC-MRS

Meadow Ridge School Council Presents

Bully-Proofing Your Child: A Parent Education Session

All parents want their children to feel safe, confident, and successful. Unfortunately, Bullying remains a significant societal issue affecting children and youth across school, sport, online spaces, and community settings. With approximately 150,000 students absent from school each day due to bullying, this pervasive issue demands informed, proactive responses from families and communities.

Understanding the distinction between normal peer conflict and bullying is essential. Disagreements between friends, sibling rivalry, or rough play between children of equal power are examples of conflict — not bullying. Bullying occurs when an individual or group repeatedly and intentionally uses power to harm, intimidate, exclude, or embarrass another person.

On April 29, 2026,  Meadow Ridge School will host a two-hour Parent Education Session for our community. This session will feature Lisa Dixon-Wells, Founder of Dare to Care, a national award winning bullying prevention program.

Participants will:

  • Learn about the scope of bullying in Canada
  • Learn to distinguish between peer conflict and true bullying behaviour
  • Gain practical strategies to support children in both in-person and online environments
  • Receive a “tool belt” of evidence-informed skills to help children respond confidently and safely to bullying situations
