Student Awards

Awards and Recognition

The Westmount School recognition program provides opportunities for students to be recognized for attaining various levels of excellence.  Please see below for some of the recognitions students can achieve.

Academic Achievement:  Grade 7 and 8 (awarded at the end of the year)

Academic Excellence with Distinction - Across all core subjects (ELA, SS, Math, Science and PE), students will have attained all mastery with a maximum of one proficient for both terms. 

Honour Roll - Across all core subjects (ELA, SS, Math, Science and PE), students will have attained all proficient with a maximum of one acceptable for both terms.

Academic Achievement:  Grade 9 (awarded at the end of the year)

Academic Excellence with Distinction - Across all core subjects (ELA, SS, Math, Science and PE), students will have attained all marks above 90.0% with a maximum of one mark between 80.0% and 90.0% for both terms.

Honour Roll - Across all core subjects (ELA, SS, Math, Science and PE), students will have attained all marks above 80.0% with a maximum of one mark between 70.0% and 80.0% for both terms.

Principal’s List: Grade 7 to 9 (awarded at the end of the year)

Awarded to students who have earned both an academic achievement award and have achieved a majority of Consistently in the grade level Competencies.

Leaders of the Pack: Grade 7 to 9 (awarded at the end of the year)

Each year, one student will be selected from grade 7, 8 and 9 classes for outstanding leadership, the contributions they have made to Westmount School and for "living" our four CORE values (Connect, Contribute, Take Ownership, Be Responsible).

Greatest Leap Award: Grade 7 to 9 (awarded at the end of the year)

Teachers select a student from each grade who have shown the most improvement over the year.

Extra Curricular Achievement: Grade 6, 7, 8, and 9 (awarded at the end of the year)

Students who represent Westmount School on athletic teams or in fine arts programs will be recognized with a certificate of participation.

Athlete of the Year: Grade 7, 8, and 9 (awarded at the end of the year)

Each year, athletes from grade 7, 8 and 9 will be selected to be recognized as Athlete of the Year. 

Athletes will be nominated by coaches from that school year and chosen by the physical education staff. Nominated athletes will be asked to complete a reflection to be turned in to the physical education staff that includes the following questions:

  • What athletic endeavors have you been active in both in school and in the community during the past year? 
  • What personal and team accomplishments are worthy of noting?
  • What are your contributions to the Westmount School athletics program other than playing on a team?
  • How have you grown personally through your participation in athletics?

Fine Arts Achievement: Grade 7, 8, and 9 (awarded at the end of the year)

Art, Drama, Musical Theatre award will be given to students demonstrating dedication and excellence in the fine arts programming at Westmount School.  Students will be selected from the performing and visual arts classes.

Tom Taylor Outstanding Musician: Grade 9 (awarded at the end of the year)

Awarded to a student who embodies the love of learning in band exemplified by Tom Taylor.  The nominated student strives not only to aim for mastery on their instrument but goes beyond to care and support other musicians in their class to achieve their best.
