Westmount Weekly News - January 26 - January 30, 2026
January 23, 2026
Dear Westmount Families,
As January winds down, our K–9 community busy! Classrooms are buzzing with mid‑year growth, and the excitement of new goals is carrying us into the months ahead.
NEW INFORMATION
Literacy Week: Literacy Bingo has gone home with all students. We would love for our families to participate to bring Literacy to Life at home and at school. Please join us TUESDAY, January 27th for our reading “Campout at Westmount” from 8:45 to 9:10 am – don't forget your flashlights! We will have special guest readers this week, including the Okotoks Fire Department and Okotoks Dawgs. On Friday, we encourage all students to “Dress Like Your Favourite Book Character” to celebrate the last day of Family Literacy Week. Please see more information on Literacy week here: https://abclifeliteracy.ca/programs/family-literacy-day/
Professional Development: On Friday, our full team (teachers and support staff) spent the morning developing new tools and strategies to support our students with their readiness to learn by deepening their understanding of self-awareness, self-management, executive functioning, and regulation. This knowledge helps our educators teach practical strategies that strengthen students’ independence, confidence, and ability to navigate challenges throughout the day while benefiting from calm, responsive, structured classrooms.
School Council: Join us for School Council in the Learning Commons on Tuesday evening from 5:30 – 7:00 pm and stay “in the know” about school learning, upcoming events, key policies, and everyday practices that shape our community. We value every voice around the table—your insights and perspectives truly matter. This is a meaningful opportunity to take part in conversations that help guide the direction of our school and support the success of all students. For those of you who cannot make the meeting due to other commitments, please feel free to access the meeting online – watch our website for the link!
Welcome to Kindergarten: Join us this Thursday at 6:00 PM in the Westmount Learning Commons for our Kindergarten Information Night, a chance for new families to learn what comes next after registration. We’ll walk through the support available for kindergarten students, explore programming and curriculum, and share helpful details about bussing, supplies, and more. It’s a warm, welcoming way to get ready for September, and we look forward to seeing our parents there!
REMINDERS and UPDATE:
Save the Date (Paul Davis) - Parent Engagement Opportunity: We are excited to welcome Paul Davis to Westmount School for a presentation to our junior high students on social media and online safety on Friday, March 20. There will also be a parent session from 6:00 – 7:00pm for parents who wish to attend. Mr. Davis has been featured on Global National News discussing social media and online safety concerns and strategies for students and their families. Mark the date to attend the parent presentation in the evening.
Musical Theatre: We are in full swing, preparing for our Musical Theatre production of SpongeBob: The Musical. If your child is in MT, please remember that rehearsals are scheduled every Tuesday to 5:30 PM. If you can support the creation of costumes or set design/production, please contact Miss Hannah Stobbe. Thank you for your support!
