Principal’s Message
Over the past two weeks, we have gathered with students to reinforce our high expectations for both learning and behaviour. At Westmount, we work together to create a school where everyone feels safe, valued, and a true sense of belonging.
We know mistakes are part of learning. When they happen, we encourage students to name it, own it, and make it right.
We encourage you to ask your child about the difference between rude, mean, and bullying behaviours. While none are acceptable, understanding the difference helps us respond appropriately and continue building a caring, respectful school community.
As always, we can only help with the concerns we know about. If something is affecting your child’s school experience, please don’t hesitate to reach out by phone or email. We value our partnership with families and are always happy to work together to support our students and find solutions. 💙
Literacy Volunteers Wanted
It takes a village to help children learn to read, and we would love to invite members of our parent and grandparent community to be part of this important work.
We are looking for caring volunteers who can commit to a regular weekly time (no more than an hour) at our school to support students in developing strong literacy skills. Volunteers will work either with small groups of Grade 1–3 students in our Foundational Literacy program or one-on-one with Grade 4–6 students participating in Precision Reading.
No previous teaching experience is required. We will provide training, ongoing coaching, and support until you feel comfortable and confident leading a group independently. Your time, encouragement, and commitment can make a meaningful difference in a child's learning journey.
To volunteer, you will need a completed Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check, in accordance with our school division's volunteer administrative procedure.
We are hoping to begin our literacy intervention groups in October and continue through to the end of May. If you have a few hours to share each month and a desire to help children grow as readers, we would be delighted to hear from you.

NEW INFORMATION
Meet the Teacher: We are so excited to welcome families back next Thursday, September 17th, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM for Meet the Teacher and a Community BBQ. We will have hot dogs, juice, and chips available for families to enjoy a light meal together. Please fill out this link to let us know if you will be attending, so we can ensure there's enough food for everyone! LINK: Westmount School BBQ Meal Order Form – Fill out form
Please complete the link by Monday, September 15 at 4:00 PM to allow us time to order food.
Terry Fox: Our annual Terry Fox walk for kindergarten to Grade 6 will take place on Thursday, September 17th. Our junior high students (Grades 7-9) will be participating in their Terry Fox Run on Wednesday, September 23 from 11:00(ish) to 3:00. Please ensure that you have permitted walking field trips in your Edsembli account, as this is required for students to be able to leave campus. A reminder was sent home today.
Lost and Found: We have three bags of shoes and other clothing that were collected from the last school year. We will be setting out these clothes if you wish to come and find any lost clothing from last year. We have decided to lay out all of our lost and found items on tables. You may take a look at the September 17 Meet the Teacher/BBQ event to see if there are any lost items of clothing that you are missing.
School Council: Westmount School Council will host their first meeting of the 2025-2026 school year in the Learning Commons on Tuesday, September 22nd, beginning at 5:30 PM. We hope to see you there – we value you sharing your voice and ideas around the table.
Lifetouch Photographs: Lifetouch will be at Westmount School on Tuesday, September 22nd, for picture day.
Westmount Extra-Curricular Activities: Westmount School has already begun a comprehensive extra-curricular athletics program. Our volleyball, flag football, cross-country and Triple Ball players will be on the court, field, and course over the next few weeks. Please be sure to cheer them on. Let’s go wolves!

REMINDERS & UPDATES
Bike Safety at Westmount: To ensure a safe environment for everyone, all students must WALK their bikes, scooters, and skateboards while on school property. Riding these wheeled devices creates significant hazards near busy entrances and the staff parking lot, increasing the risk of collisions with moving vehicles. By walking, students can maintain better control and remain highly visible to drivers during drop-off and pick-up times. We also remind all bike riders to be respectful of pedestrians, who have the right of way, on sidewalks when biking home. We appreciate the cooperation of our entire school community in following these safety rules to protect our students. Thank you for doing your part to keep our campus safe. As a reminder, please do NOT park in the staff lot at the end of the school day. Thank you.
No Parking: Please be aware that we have a new NO PARKING sign in our staff parking lot (at the back of the lot near the grade one door). We have had some safety concerns and need to encourage our parents to wait in the loop or at the front of the parking lot.
Foothills School Division App: Stay connected and receive notifications directly from Westmount School by visiting the app store on your device and downloading the Foothills School Division App. Once downloaded, you will be prompted to launch the app and follow the on-screen instructions to create an account.
