"This award celebrates students who excel not only in skill, but in character. The Athlete of the Year should be someone who leads by example, inspiring teammates. They have sportsmanship, showing respect for opponents, officials, coaches and teammates. They are a true team player, prioritizing the success of the team over themselves. And someone who was recommended by a teacher, showing their conduct in the classroom mirrors their commendable behaviour in sports."
