You're ready to learn anywhere. Here's what you need to know about registration:

Full Time (Grades 1 to 12+, Adult Learners)

Foothills Digital School accepts students in grades 1 to 12, students age 18 & 19 who are completing their grade diploma, and adult learners (age 20+) who wish to enroll and complete their entire course load online. Full‑time enrollment may be a good fit for students who:

• Prefer online learning as their primary learning environment
• Need a flexible schedule due to athletics, employment, health, or personal circumstances
• Are seeking a supportive, engaging digital learning community

Students who enroll full time become Foothills School Division students at the Foothills Digital School and receive ongoing academic guidance, teacher support, and access to FDS‑based services.

Individual courses

A great option for current FSD high school students who want to enhance their learning with 1 Foothills Digital School course per semester. 

Students who are registered with another Alberta school board can now enroll at Foothills Digital School to take up to 10 course credits while remaining enrolled with their home school. This option is ideal for students who:

• Need scheduling flexibility
• Want to upgrade or accelerate a course
• Are looking for an online option to complement in‑person learning
• Need access to a course not available at their local school board.

Students continue to be registered with their current school, while completing selected courses online through Foothills Digital School.

Starting September 1, 2026, Alberta Education and Childcare will permit students to be enrolled in, and earn credits, from other school boards while still enrolled in their home school board.  Non-primary students are required to be registered by the deadlines outlined above. 

HOW TO REGISTER

1. Review the Qualification for Enrollment document to confirm that you meet all requirements for your registration.
2. Complete the FSD Student Registration: Foothills School Division > Our Schools >  Student Registration
3. Once your registration is submitted, we will send you a follow-up email that includes a form asking for more detailed information about the student. We use these questions to ensure that online learning is the best fit for the student. Please note that inaccurate or missing information can delay processing or even result in your application being declined.
4. Our team will review and verify your registration and supplementary information. Sometimes, we may contact parents or 18+ students to ask further questions regarding the application.
5. Once accepted to Foothills Digital School, new full-time students (with their parents/guardians) will be invited to register for a mandatory online orientation session. The registration fee is $50.00 (non-refundable after classes start).
6. Learning begins! Once enrolled, you will receive an  email that will provide you with your Edsembli and Moodle login information and a guide on how to start your courses. You will also receive an email from your new teacher(s) outlining the specifics of their class.

PLEASE REMEMBER

• Review the Qualification for Enrollment document before completing the Foothills School Division registration to avoid a delayed or declined registration.
• Students who are under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian complete the application form or it will not be processed.
• All registrations are are to include a $50.00 (non-refundable) fee,  per student regardless of age. Students 20 years old and older, pay $125.00 per course. All fees must be paid in full 30 days following the start of the semester (or term for non-primary students). The registration fee is not refundable after classes begin. 
• Check your spam folder for any emails from us (@fsd38.ab.ca) have not been flagged as spam.
