Foothills School Division is pleased to announce the following School Leadership appointment for the 2023-2024 School Year

Please join us in congratulating Ms. Faye Holt who has been appointed Principal of Blackie School effective August 31, 2023.

A committed, collaborative, and trusted leader of students, staff, and the school community, Faye’s demonstrated experience and strengths align exceedingly well with the leadership profile developed for Blackie School.  Ms. Holt has a personal connection to the Blackie community having grown up on a hobby farm in the Alderheights community, just outside of Blackie. While Faye attended Senator Riley for high school, her three siblings all attended Blackie through to grade 9.

Beginning her teaching career in 2002 with Edmonton Public Schools, Ms. Holt served in various roles including classroom teacher, Resource Development services team member, and with the Institute for Innovation in Second Languages. Ms. Holt joined Foothills School Division in 2015 at Red Deer Lake School and in 2017 joined the staff of École Percy Pegler School where she served as Learning Coach and Vice-Principal. In 2022, Ms. Holt moved into the Vice-Principal role at Turner Valley School.

Exemplary communication skills, instructional leadership, language learning leadership, and capacity for leading a learning community characterize Faye’s leadership strengths. Ms. Holt’s experience with the team establishing the Nature-Based program at ÉPPS will be welcomed in the Blackie School community where outdoor learning has been an instructional and pedagogical focus.

Ms. Holt holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Lethbridge; a Bachelor of Education from Concordia University; and a Master of Education, Neuroscience of Teaching and Learning from the University of Lethbridge.

As she assumes the role of Principal at Blackie, Faye shares: "I am so grateful for the connections and relationships I developed at Percy Pegler and Turner Valley as Vice-Principal. I will miss the laughter and comradery from the Turner Valley Staff and students. As I move into the Principal role at Blackie, I take the lessons and joys of a small-town community with me and look forward to building new connections."

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Chris Fuzessy, provides: "Congratulations to Ms. Holt as she moves into the role of Principal at Blackie School. Ms. Holt’s extensive experience as an educator and her commitment to student success will undoubtedly continue to enhance the great work taking place at Blackie School. On behalf of the school team and community, welcome to Blackie School."
