Terry Fox and Kolton's Run

We are excited to have our elementary students participating in the Terry Fox Run/Walk and our junior high students in Kolton's Run on Wednesday, September 20. (Rainout day will be Thursday, September 21) Our students and staff will attend an assembly in the morning to bring awareness to Terry Fox's story but also Kolton's story.
Elementary students will participate in the walk/run from 1-2:30pm. Our school donations for cancer research will look a slightly different this year. We have a member of our school community, Kolton Byerley, who has sadly been effected by this devastating disease. In efforts to support his family we are offering for our school community the option to donate to their family. We will also be collecting donations for Terry Fox cancer research. If you would like to donate to either or both causes you are welcome to send in your donations by Wednesday, September 20. *Please note: When you send in your donations it's important that you clearly mark the amount and to what you're donating to. Whether it's for The Byerley family or the Terry Fox Foundation. If you are sending in donations for both please make it clear how much you are donating to each cause as we will need to keep these donations separate.
Junior High students support of this event will look different than it has in the past. We are honouring this day as we reach out as a community to support the Byerley family who has been impacted by cancer. Students will be participating with Kolton’s Run, a 2 or 3 km course using our local trails as part of their cross-country unit. We have discussed as a staff and are encouraging students to donate $10 each, with all collected funds donated directly to the Byerley family. We are sensitive to the fact that he is not the only one from our pack that has been impacted by cancer; but as a recent graduate of Westmount, that many students know, we wanted to show our support for him. Parents are encouraged to come support the day as a volunteer or come join us for the run which will take place that afternoon. More details will be shared in the days leading up to the event and a permission form will come home the week before allowing students to use off campus trails.
Volunteers Needed! We need your help to make this day a success for our students. If you are able to volunteer for the afternoon, please contact your child's teacher.
