FSD welcomes Cora-Leah Schmitt as Director of Inclusive Learning & Student Well-Being
Foothills School Division is pleased to announce the following appointment at Division Office, effective August 21, 2023:
We are pleased to welcome Ms. Cora-Leah Schmitt to Foothills School Division in the role of Director of Inclusive Learning and Student Well-Being. Cora-Leah brings with her a wealth of career experiences in education and educational leadership relevant to this position.
Considerable strengths and diverse experience relative to the position profile were evident in Cora-Leah’s application, interview, and references for this leadership opportunity. Within her diverse leadership competencies, Cora-Leah exhibits a data-driven orientation, a capacity to lead collaboratively, strong inclusive learning sector knowledge to support students and families, and the ability to solve problems and find innovative solutions.
Ms. Schmitt brings to FSD over 28 years of accomplished teaching, school leadership, and system-level leadership from her experience in three Alberta school jurisdictions. Roles as English as a Second Language and School Improvement Consultant with Calgary Catholic Schools and Coordinator of English Language Learning and Curriculum and Instruction with Christ the Redeemer Catholic inform her system leadership background. Most recently Cora-Leah has served as Director of Student Services with Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools.
Cora-Leah holds her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and Master of Education from the University of Calgary. Additionally, she holds her Alberta Education LQS and SLQS certification and several certifications relevant to the Inclusive Learning portfolio including ARC Training, Accessible Braille Training, SIOP Level 2 Training, Level B Testing, and Adaptive Schools Training.
As she joins FSD Cora-Leah shares, “I am thrilled to have been selected to fill this role within the Foothills School Division. I look forward to learning about the diverse culture of each school and working collaboratively with students, staff, and families to provide an inclusive learning environment focused on student well-being.”
