ATM: 2024 Resolutions

ATM-01102024

A New Year is upon us, a time to reflect on the year gone by and to plan forward for the year to follow. We have many plans to accomplish here at Foothills School Division in 2024 as we continue to improve our work and service to our students and families.

The new learner profile will be shared with families very soon. This is part of our new FSD System of Reporting implemented this school year. We are thankful to our staff team for working with this new format and to our parents for granting us the grace to work out the challenges with the System.

Foothills School Division drives learning that transfers; the revised learner profile will allow parents and students to see student achievement within their engaging and challenging coursework.

Our calendar for the 2024-2025 school year will be available at the end of January. Considering feedback from parents and staff, we believe the changes to the calendar reflect the voice of both important shareholders. FSD will continue to seek feedback in the years to come and to help our FSD school community shareholders understand the complexities of calendar building.

As 2024 unfolds, we are implementing a new Division-wide student code of conduct. Having built this new document with staff insight we will be seeking feedback from parents via school councils. This new Code of Conduct follows the implementation last year of a rewritten Policy 14, A Place for All. It will bring consistency to parents and students as they move to different schools in our system and operationalize the spirit of A Place for All.

Our current 3-year Education Plan expires this year, and we are building a 5-year fixed Education Plan to guide our work for the next half-decade. It is a celebration to say that we will implement nothing new in this 5-year plan. We are resolute in our commitment to our current objectives and will deepen our understanding and implementation of these.

Included in the 5-year plan will be the introduction of a 5-year Operational Plan, an overview of our plans to engage with our FSD communities around community needs in education – including facility usage, student attendance boundaries, and program offerings.

This list is not exhaustive but provides highlights on upcoming changes and work geared towards continuous improvement of our schools and school division.

We are committed to placing education at the center of a flourishing community.

All the best for a happy and healthy 2024.
