ATM: System of Reporting & Parent Participation

At the beginning of this school year, Foothills School Division shared information about a new division wide System of Reporting in all our schools, from kindergarten to grade 12. This new System, based on the most current research in this field and the feedback of our teachers, parents, and students, is built around two Learner Profiles - in February and June - of each year. From September to January a ‘Meet the Teacher’ and Learner Conference takes place for each student. Two formal progress updates are also communicated to families, and a gradebook update takes place every month. All of this is in addition to weekly or biweekly updates and emails that teachers are already sending parents to keep them abreast of the learning taking place, how to support students, and any upcoming events. As schools and staff become more familiar with this new system and the ‘Edsembli’ software that hosts it, we are confident that the changes you will continue to see this year will be positive.
With consistent home and school communication in mind, we are taking this time to remind you of the new System as the first of two Learner Profiles this school year has been sent out. There are changes in the look of the Learner Profile, but there should not be any surprises or lack of information in the grades or comments from your child’s teachers because the new division-wide System of Reporting provides parents with ongoing and regular feedback.
Your participation in these processes is key to student learning and success. Please take the time to attend the ‘Meet the Teacher’ and Learner Conferences. Please read and ask any questions you may have about progress updates. And please, take the time to access gradebook updates every month. Your role as a partner in education is invaluable in supporting student learning.
We are gathering feedback on the System of Reporting as part of the FSD Assurance Survey that is in your email inbox. This is your opportunity to provide further voice and feedback in helping us advance our work in keeping you, our FSD parents and families, well informed about your child and their days in our schools.
Thank you for partnering with us, for your trust in our schools and division, and for doing your part in staying up to speed on your child’s learning journey here at FSD.
