FSD Assurance Survey 2024

As a partner in education, we value your perspective of your child’s learning. To better understand your child’s experience, we invite you to participate in our annual FSD Assurance Survey. This is your opportunity to add your voice to your child’s learning experience.  Your voice helps us to Improve your child's education. You should have received a link to your email on February 23, with your private link to complete the survey. 

If you have a child in grades 4, 7, or 10 you may have already completed the survey from Alberta Education and may find some of these questions to be similar.  Even if you have completed the Alberta Education Survey, it is important to also complete the FSD Assurance Survey.  The FSD Assurance Survey polls 100% of Foothills Parents on a greater number of criteria including budget priorities, board governance, and school configurations. 

To allow us time to review your feedback and implement changes into our Education Plan, we ask that you please complete the FSD Assurance Survey before 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 15.  

Formal results from this survey are shared within our Annual Education Results Report. You can find this at our website foothillsschooldivision.ca

Your participation in this survey is a significant contribution to your child’s learning. Some other examples of parent involvement include: 

  • Attending school events/performances 
  • Connecting with your child’s teacher(s) 
  • Viewing your child’s gradebook in the Edsembli Family Portal 
  • Attend learner conferences (parent-teacher interview) 
  • Attending School Council meetings.

Over 90% of all parents who completed the FSD Assurance Survey agree that FSD provides quality teaching and education. They report that their children find schoolwork challenging and interesting, and they understand what they are expected to learn. Parents believe their children are learning what they need to know, including useful skills like numeracy and literacy. FSD strives to improve the student experience at each school, regardless of grade, stage, or community, ensuring learning consistently is high quality.

We collaborate with local groups to support our students’ needs: The Network, an organization that helps children and youth thrive through programs such as Ready to Learn, Youth Mental Wellness, and the Youth Integrated Community Hub. We also have our own services to promote mental health and wellness among our students. Minds Matter is a program that runs throughout the year in various schools and reaches out to youth in both school and community settings. Students’ Matters is a student-led initiative that involves learners from grade 4 to 12 in addressing the well-being of their schools.

First Nations, Métis, and Inuit ways of learning and culture, and steps to advance Truth & Reconciliation are integrated into student learning.

Students have the opportunity to explore interests and set challenges for their learning. This Learning for Transfer prepares students for life beyond school, building critical thinking, problem solving, and technical skills.

Our schools work continuously to improve learning. In 2023, over 80% of all parents say that citizenship, student learning and engagement, safe, caring welcoming environments, are significant strengths at FSD.  Our parents have indicated that the program of studies has ranked higher than the province average. Some of our learning opportunities include: Technology: access to learning tools in the class, maker-centered learning, Career Technology Foundations and Career Technology Studies , robotics, my Blueprint 

Drama, Music & Fine Arts: Winter/Spring school-wide performances, drama classes, plays, band concerts, artist showcases. 

Health & PhysEd: Implementation of new PhysEd and Wellness curriculum at the K-6 level, extracurriculars (teams, clubs), Career and Life Management (CALM), financial literacy through industry partnerships. 

Another language: French Immersion, French Second Language, Spanish.

Students are prepared for life after school and to be positive citizens within their community through their learning competencies in critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving. These skills are integrated into daily learning, building a solid foundation of soft-skills that lead students into successful academic and career options.

Our schools are equipped with several avenues of supports and services for students. This includes one-to-one help, but also considers supports in a larger sense. You and your child can access these supports and services:

  • Academic and Career Advisors (Career Counselling and Programming Support for High School Students)

  • Connecting with your school for additional learning supports for help with reading, writing, and mathematics (literacy and numeracy)

Engaging Programming 

  • Learning Commons (School Library Services) 
  • In-school groups including Students' Matters who provide voice at the school and system level 
  • Career Technology Foundations and Career Technology Studies Programming
