Monitoring for Student COVID Symptoms

Covid Symptoms

Although we try to keep school communication emails to our bi-weekly Community Connects on Friday, there are some messages regarding COVID that need to be sent individually due to their importance to the health and safety of our community.  You may be receiving more emails than last year in order to provide the latest information.

This government resource is helpful when assessing whether your child can attend school:

It is important for parents to understand:

  • If a child has chills, painful swallowing, stuffy nose, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, gastro issues, loss of smell or taste, pink eye… they must remain home until their symptoms resolve.  After they are feeling better they are welcome to return to school.
  • For fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, sore throat – students are legally required to isolate for 10 days from the start of symptoms or until they resolve, whichever is LONGER.  Now there is a way to shorten this time – if the child has a negative test.  If a child is tested and it returns negative they are welcome back into school once they’re feeling better.  So no test = at least 10 days.  Negative test = feeling better.

We hope this helps you better understand when your child should stay at home, for how long and when they can return to school. Again, we thank you for your continued support and collective responsibility in ensuring our school is a safe and healthy place.  Should you have any questions, please reach out to 811 for further clarification.
