Board Meeting Highlights

The Board acknowledges the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta and the Métis Nation of Alberta Region 3.


New Board of Trustees

The new Board members were formally introduced and welcomed to the Board table:  Trustees Jack Molyneux (Ward 1); John Evans (Ward 2); Theresa Letendre (Ward 3); Lisa Penzo & Sharon Nichols (Ward 4); Phil Irwin (Ward 5).

Celebrations 

  • The second annual FSD Learning Conference took place last week.
  • Kudos to the Technology Services and Facility Services Teams during the transition of Blackie School back to their own location and thank you to the Spitzee School team for welcoming the Blackie School staff and students into their building.

Engagement, Support, and Success

  • 2021-2022 COVID-19 School Renewal Updates were reviewed to ensure we comply with current information from the Alberta Government. 
    • The Board indicated that they want to consistently support the Executive Team with ongoing concerns and inconsistencies that seem to occur when the Alberta Government implement mandates around Covid-19.  As a result, it was decided to communicate with the Minister of Education regarding the recent implementation of Covid-19 contact notification processes and protocols
  • Foothills School Division Board of Trustees is committed to improving opportunities and learning for students. As part of the work in continuing to promote and support student learning and innovation and in alignment with Foothills School Division Goals, the Board of Trustees has committed $50,000 dollars over the course of the 2021-2022 school year, to be drawn from operating reserves, for projects and practices that optimize student growth and achievement in the areas of:

    • Innovation & Design 

    • Indigenous Learning 

    • French Services

    Three grant applications were received and the following two were approved by the Board:

    • Ecole Secondaire Highwood High School – Foothills Emergency Services Program - $5,000
    • C. I. McLaren School Designing Engaging and Authentic Learning for Transfer o- From Bee Boxes to Fish Tanks - $5,000

Presentations to the Board

October 27, 2021

  • Principal Jeff Mason provided a report to the Board.  Cameron Crossing School is an Outreach School that supports At Risk learners with academic and social/emotional needs from across the greater Foothills School Division attendance boundaries. Staff work with students and families and strongly believe in flexible learning/scheduling and community and Local High School partnerships.
  • Director of Inclusive Learning & Student Wellbeing, Kevin Newman, presented the Inclusive Learning & Student Wellbeing Education Plan focus areas highlighting the following:
    • Minds Matter
    • Growing Divisional Supports
    • Students’ Matters
    • Systems & Structures
