A Thoughtful Moment: When Kindness Multiplies

ATM-2026-0302

Like glitter, kindness has a way of spreading beyond where it started. It shows up on our hands, in our words, and sometimes in places we least expect it.

For Pink Shirt Day, our schools and worksites across Foothills School Division were dotted with pink — a visible reminder that kindness matters, and that standing up for one another is part of who we are.

But kindness doesn’t stop with what we wear.

Kindness has a way of multiplying. One small action — a smile in the hallway, a note of encouragement, a student standing beside a classmate — often becomes something more. Like glitter, kindness has a way of spreading beyond where it started. It shows up on our hands, in our words, and sometimes in places we least expect it.

Across FSD, Pink Shirt Day is more than a moment. It’s a reflection of our shared commitment to creating safe, caring, and welcoming learning and working environments — places where every learner, staff member, and family knows they belong.

Kindness is How Belonging Grows

Our purpose is rooted in strengthening relationships, fostering well‑being, and enhancing belonging. These aren’t abstract ideas — they come to life through everyday acts of kindness and connection in our classrooms, offices, buses, and school communities.

When kindness is practiced consistently, it builds trust. It creates spaces where learners feel safe to take risks, where differences are respected, and where people are treated with dignity, respect, and care. Belonging doesn’t happen by accident — it grows when kindness is modelled, noticed, and shared.

Pink Shirt Day reminds us that bullying has no place in our schools or society, but it also invites us to think bigger. To ask ourselves: How can we continue to choose kindness, not just today, but every day?

A Place Where Everyone Belongs

From students and staff to families and community partners, Foothills School Division is a place where everyone belongs. We see it in the way students support one another, in the care shown by staff, and in the partnerships that strengthen our schools and communities.

When kindness is shared freely, it has a lasting impact. It shapes culture. It strengthens connection. And like glitter, it often lingers — showing up long after the moment has passed.

As we move beyond Pink Shirt Day, we carry its message forward: kindness matters. Belonging matters. Respect matters. And together, we continue to build learning communities where everyone is welcomed, valued, and supported.

Yours in learning,
