Blackie School Olympic Celebration Unites Students in Canadian Spirit
On Friday, February 13, Blackie School was filled with excitement and pride as students and staff came together for a special Olympics-themed celebration. In honour of Canada’s participation in the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, our grade 5/6 teacher, Mr. Barton, coordinated a memorable day that showcased both our national spirit and school community.
The day began with opening ceremonies that saw all students gathering to mark the occasion, including a symbolic torch lighting. Throughout the day, students enthusiastically took part in a variety of Olympic-inspired events, fostering teamwork, friendly competition, and plenty of fun.
A highlight of the celebration was the Bobsled race, made truly unique thanks to the creativity and generosity of Briggs Shields and his grandfather. Their hard work provided Blackie School with its very own bobsled, making the event a one-of-a-kind experience for everyone. The day concluded with a celebration of the bobsled race winners, capping off an unforgettable event that brought students together and celebrated the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect.
Thank you to Mr. Barton, Briggs Shields and his grandfather, and everyone who helped make this day possible. Blackie School is proud to celebrate both Canadian spirit and our amazing students!
