Foothills School Division Celebrates a Year of Engagement, Support, and Success in the 2024-2025 AERR

2026-News-AERR2425

The Foothills School Division is proud to announce the release of its 2024–2025 Annual Education Results Report (AERR), marking a year of remarkable progress, innovation, and community collaboration. Guided by the vision of “Engagement, Support, and Success for each learner,” the Division continues to place education at the centre of a flourishing community —one shaped daily by the collective efforts of students, families, staff, and community partners working together.

A Year of Achievement and Innovation

This year, Foothills School Division celebrated measurable gains in teaching and learning, with classrooms deepening their use of the Learning that Transfers instructional model. Students thrived through expanded early learning opportunities, record participation in summer school programming, and recognition at provincial and national levels for innovation in teaching and leadership. Notably, the Division earned accolades for its leadership in artificial intelligence integration, collaborating with industry leaders such as Microsoft and Dell.

Community Engagement and Student Empowerment

Fostering strong relationships with families and communities remained a cornerstone of the Division’s work. Stakeholder engagement continued to grow, with families participating in consultations, celebrations, and feedback processes to inform decision making at the school and system level. Initiatives like Students’ Matters empowered student voice and leadership, fostering a culture of inclusivity and belonging. This commitment to listening and learning was reflected in the Division’s locally developed FSD Assurance Survey data, with 1,789 parents (23% of families) actively contributing to decision-making and school improvement.

Foothills School Division values meaningful engagement and transparent reporting. While a smaller number of families participated in the province’s Annual Education Assurance Measures (AEAM) survey, the Division’s locally developed FSD Assurance Survey provided broader insight into family perspectives across the system. Together, these data sources inform continuous improvement and strengthen decision-making at both the school and system levels.

Wellness, Well-Being, and Inclusive Support

Foothills School Division remains dedicated to creating welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environments where students feel supported to learn and grow. Trauma-informed practices, expanded mental health supports, and strong partnerships with families and community organizations have helped nurture student success and well-being. The Division’s schools are recognized as safe and caring spaces, with 91% of parents affirming positive environments (FSD Assurance Survey).

Academic Excellence and Lifelong Learning

Students across the Division demonstrated strong achievement in literacy and numeracy, with 88% of parents indicating these skills are useful and 85% of students scoring in the acceptable range for diploma exams. The Division’s innovative programs, including Career Education, Indigenous Learning, and Dual Credit opportunities, continue to prepare students for success in post-secondary education, training, and the workforce.

Honouring Diversity and Truth & Reconciliation

The Division continues to advance Truth and Reconciliation, celebrating Indigenous student success and fostering understanding of multiple perspectives. This past year, 92% of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students graduated within five years, and 88% achieved an acceptable standard on diploma exams.  Partnerships grounded in respect and culturally significant practices strengthen the Division’s purpose to place education at the centre of a flourishing community.

A Flourishing Future

As the Division looks ahead, the achievements and lessons of 2024–2025 lay a strong foundation for continued growth. The Board of Trustees, staff, students, and families are commended for their resilience, innovation, and partnership. Together, Foothills School Division is building a brighter future—one where every learner is supported, valued,  and empowered to succeed. The Foothills School Division encourages its partners in education to explore the engagement, support, and success of its students within the 2024-2025 Annual Education Results Report at the division’s website (foothillsschooldivision.ca).
