2023 Fine Arts Summer Camp

Session 1: July 3 - 14, 2023 | 8:30am - 3:30pm

Session 2: July 17 - 28, 2023 | 8:30am - 3:30pm 

École Secondaire Foothills Composite High School / Alberta High School of Fine Arts


FSD is offering students in grades 4 to 8 a unique summer camp experience this July.  This experience will center around the fine arts including drama, a variety of artistic opportunities, and cultural experiences.  This camp will provide FSD students with an opportunity to engage in and experience the fine arts programming offered at the Foothills Composite High School / Alberta High School of Fine Arts in Okotoks.

Session 1: July 3-14
Theme: Land & Water
Session 2: July 17-28
Theme: Fire & Air
Program Highlights
  • For Apprentice & Master age groups
  • Exploring both visual arts and dramatic arts through the lens of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit elements.
    • Storytelling
    • Artwork of both Leah Dorion and Alex Janvier
    • Traditional stories which make up Treaty 7
  • Friday Fireside: a camp tradition! Participants will prepare skits and songs throughout the week to be shared- families are welcome to participate!
  • Final Friday Foothills Fine Arts Fringe: come and explore the work campers completed over the two weeks- families welcome!
  • Traditional camp games and activities
  • A variety of off-site activities will be organized throughout the two weeks


Program Highlights

    • Music elements in storytelling
    • Fire as destruction and creation
    • Power air can have on both visual and dramatic arts.
  • Friday Fireside: a camp tradition! Participants will prepare skits and songs throughout the week to be shared families are welcome to participate!
  • Final Friday Foothills Fine Arts Fringe: come and explore the work campers completed over the two weeks-families welcome!
  • Traditional camp games and activities
  • A variety of off-site activities will be organized throughout the two weeks

Groups

Both sessions are open to apprentice and master age groups.  

Apprentice
  • completed grade 3 to completed grade 5
  • daily focus on both visual and dramatic arts
  • daily take-home visual arts projects
  • participation in both Friday Fireside and Foothills Fine Arts Fringe

Master
  • completed grade 6 to completed grade 8
  • focus on either visual arts OR dramatic arts
  • daily work on final presentations, along with leadership roles in both Friday Fireside and Foothills Fine Arts Fringe

  3. Course Selection: choose Session 1 and/or Session 2

$350 per student, per session
