Okotoks Oilers Inspire Students at Dr. Morris Gibson School Through Buddy Program

2026-DMG-OilersBuddy

Community partnerships develop strong schools! At Dr. Morris Gibson School, the Okotoks O.I.L.E.R.S. Buddy Program has been a beneficial program that took place over the course of five consecutive Wednesdays at the school. During this period, members of the Okotoks Oilers hockey team visited our school to engage directly with students, creating meaningful connections and inspiring interactions. These visits provided a unique opportunity for students to hear firsthand from the Oilers about their personal journeys—how they dedicated themselves to hard work and perseverance to earn their place on the team.

Throughout the program, the Oilers shared valuable insights on balancing academic responsibilities with extracurricular activities, emphasizing the importance of setting and pursuing goals both on and off the ice. This candid sharing of experiences offers our students practical advice and motivation to strive for success in multiple areas of their lives.

In addition to these inspiring conversations, the Oilers actively participated in various interactive activities with the students. They read books together, fostering a love for reading and learning, and engaged in board games that encouraged teamwork and strategic thinking. The excitement continued with floor hockey games, where the Oilers played alongside the students, promoting physical activity and sportsmanship in a fun and inclusive environment. To cap off these memorable visits, the players generously signed autographs, creating lasting mementos for our students to cherish.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Okotoks Oilers for their commitment to supporting student engagement through this Buddy Program. Their involvement has enriched the experiences of our DMG Hawks, providing encouragement, mentorship, and joyful moments that will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our school community.
