Our Commitment to Safety
Safe, welcoming, caring, and respectful learning environments is priority.
Foothills School Division works with schools, community support partners, local RCMP detachments, and other emergency services to promote safe learning facilities and worksites. You may see community safety personnel, such as the RCMP or Municipal Bylaw, at your child's school. The presence of RCMP or Bylaw at your child's school does not indicate that there is a problem. We have positive partnerships with our municipalities and detachments, and through regular check-ins and visits, we show that law enforcement and other community safety personnel are a part of our community.
Safety is a shared responsibility, let's work together to observe Division and school safety practices:
- Reporting safety concerns or threats immediately to the school principal.
- Protecting the privacy and dignity of all members of our school community.
- Follow sign in and out protocols.
- All staff, students, visitors, and volunteers are to be made aware of evacuation procedures and location of muster point on a regular basis and at public events.
- Park in designated visitor parking areas. Fire and bus lanes must not be obstructed or utilized during school hours.
- Observe safe street parking and do not park within 5 metres of marked crosswalks, stop signs, or fire hydrant (Traffic Safety Act Alberta Regulation 304/2002, Section 44).
- Review school safety procedures with your child.
- Review the legislative frameworks that govern Division and school actions.
Foothills School Division has a comprehensive Critical Incident Response Manual that sees to the immediate actions to assure safety, supporting students and their families following an incident, and other considerations such as facility and asset management and communications.
