2026-2027 Instructional calendar update for staff & family learning

2026-CalUpdate

On June 17, 2026, the Foothills School Division Board of Trustees made an adjustment to the 2026–2027 instructional calendar to support a meaningful, division-wide learning opportunity for all staff and families.

The professional learning day originally scheduled for March 12 will now take place on March 22, 2027. As a result, March 12, 2027, is an instructional day, and there will be no classes for students on March 22.

The instructional calendar has been revised to align with educator and author Hannah Beach's availability and to allow all Foothills School Division staff to participate in this shared learning opportunity. The session, focussed on developing resiliency in youth, will explore why students may be showing more anxiety, aggression, or emotional shutdown, and how adults can respond by looking beyond behaviour to the emotions and needs underneath. This work supports the Division’s ongoing commitment to creating safe, caring, and respectful learning environments where every student and staff member feels supported, and that they belong.

We are pleased to share that with the support of FCSS, an evening session with Hannah Beach will be offered to parents and caregivers on the evening of March 22, 2027. This engaging session will create space for shared understanding and practical strategies to support child and youth well-being in our community.

More details about the evening session for families will be shared in the new school year. Families are encouraged to watch the Division’s website for additional information.

We appreciate the flexibility and understanding of our community as we make this valuable adjustment to strengthen learning across our division and community.
