Connection, leadership, and service take flight at Spitzee School

2026-Spitzee

Connect, lead and serve, soar.

At Spitzee School, these words are coming to life through purposeful work that nurtures belonging, well-being, and student success every day.

Serving nearly 300 students in a historical neighbourhood near downtown High River, Spitzee is advancing family engagement through meaningful communication, elevating student voice, school council involvement, and strong community partnerships. These connections promote students, families, and staff to work together to create a caring and collaborative learning environment where every voice matters.

The school is also intentionally strengthening student well-being through programs that foster connection and regulation. During the October 7, 2026, Board Meeting, Principal Shannon Culbert and Vice Principal Corre Mahan highlighted how the school advances student wellness and well-being through intentional teaching of executive function skills, deliberate teaching of 7 Habits as a common language, Family Groupings, and prioritizing connection. These are in place with the recognition and belief that students learn best when they feel safe, supported, and connected to their school community.

This belief and commitment extends into each classroom through proactive supports, targeted interventions, innovative practices, literacy and numeracy development, and land-based learning opportunities that deepen understanding and foster authentic connections to place and culture. From drumming circles and maker-centered learning to student reflection and authentic problem solving, learners are building confidence, agency, and the skills needed for success in all aspects of their vibrant lives.

Reflecting on the year ahead, Principal Culbert shares, “We are excited to connect, lead and serve, and soar into the school year. Spitzee students and their families are incredibly involved, and we look forward to seeing the positive impacts our Eagles will make in their school community.”

Spitzee School's approach is a strong example of the Division’s priorities outlined in the Fast Forward to Flourishing CommUNITY plan. By creating the conditions where students are connected, supported, and empowered, the school is helping every learner soar academically, socially, and emotionally.
